UDN WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 425th EDITION 2023

UDN is honoured to be an active member of the Budget Working Group coordinated at national level by MOFPED. These budget consultative conferences are a culmination of sustained discourse between Civil Society and government especially on three key ingredients of a good budget process namely a) national budget transparency, b) oversight institutions playing their role and c) public participation in the entire budget cycle. UDN has always been at the helm of conducting bi-annual Open Budget Survey exercises and sharing reports with government. Uganda has progressively been highly rated especially in the areas of transparency and public participation. These regional Budget consultative conferences are a clear reflection that in the coming OBS assessment, Uganda will continue to excel not only in Africa where we were second, but even globally. We thank MOFPED for making it a norm to listen to citizens’ views in the budget processes. In addition to what partner CSOs and Local Governments have expressed, here are a few additions which we feel can make the national budget work for the people.
