PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE (PIC)

The Public Information Centre (PIC) provides electronic communication, electronic and hard copy document processing and dissemination, and general media and public relations liaison services to sustain a viable Management Information System for Uganda Debt Network. These facilities help the organization to achieve its advocacy objectives and enhance the impact of programme management.

The centre has three key result areas

  1. Having an improved and well performing Local Area Network (LAN) to sustain day to day communication to execute programme and institutional work. A Wide Area Network (WAN) is also projected to be established, become operational and easily accessible so as to link up with more of our members.
  2. Having the right information for advocacy and lobbying purposes available, and strengthening the capacity of UDN staff, members and partners to access this information and use it to best effect to influence policy change in favour of the poor.
  3. Improved and strengthened Programme management capacity.

The programme strategic outputs are:

  1. The Policy Review Newsletter – a monthly electronic and hard copy publication that features articles with critical analysis of the formulation and implementation of public policies and their impact on the poor.
  2. The Weekly E-Newsletter – a weekly electronic publication that features key programme and institutional events in each week and their impact and bearing on the overall institutional strategic advocacy programme and plan.
  3. Policy Briefs – issued in conjunction with the respective programmes to stimulate and contribute to discussion and debate of policies of concern to the public.
  4. Press Statements – also issued in conjunction with the respective programmes to avail information for use by the print and electronic media as part of UDN’s objective to enhance its advocacy objectives.
  5. Programme/Institutional Reviews and Reports – as a record of institutional achievement and memory that provide insight into what UDN stands for and what it has done to realize its vision and mission. These provide the compass whose direction those who want to identify with and support UDN’s objectives follow.

So as to reach the targeted audiences in a timely manner, our newsletters, policy briefs and press statements are initially sent out electronically. Depending on demand by sections of our audiences, especially the policy-making and implementing ones, we also produce and disseminate some hard copies of issues that may need to be referred to or consulted for subsequent discussion.

The longer reviews and reports are also available electronically; but hard copies are also produced for those sections of our audiences that need to keep such a copy, including grassroots members and partners, schools and tertiary institution libraries.

ACHIEVEMENTS
